Welcome!
Welcome to the 2013-14 school year and welcome to the Armendariz “Mighty Lion” Band! I would like to welcome back all students from their summer vacations. I'm excited to get started on a brand new year! Our program is alive and healthier than ever with nearly 300 students. I’m extremely excited to meet all of the new students and excited to get to work with the veterans. The faculty and staff at Armendariz are very proud of their school and are looking to get all of their excitement into the student population. The band has already been asked to perform at many events this year including football games and the Thanksgiving parade. I’d also like to give a big thank you to our principal Mr. Munoz and our counseling staff for fixing previous scheduling conflicts the band has faced in previous years. Classes will no longer have beginners and advanced students at the same time which will make for a much better learning environment. We will have 3 levels: Advanced, intermediate, and beginning.
In trying to foresee any issues with the school year, I’ve become a little bit worried about our instrument situation. We do not have enough instruments on the shelves currently to outfit 300 students. After I have a better idea of who plays what and how many instruments we’ll need, I will request Fine Arts to fill the need. However, this may take some time as every school (high school and middle school) in EPISD will be doing the same process. If you own your own instrument that is great! If you can go to a local music store and rent one that would also be fantastic. I believe students taking ownership in their instruments will help them to be more focused and successful in their craft. You can get 3-7 years use out of the instrument between middle school and high school, or even longer if they continue on to play in college. I am NOT requiring anyone to go out and buy their own instrument.
I am expecting a fantastic year and amazing things to be coming out of the band room. We do not currently have a band booster program, but parent help and/or support would be greatly appreciated. A successful program cannot be run without the involvement of parents. I will generally send out mass information through email. The band email will be [email protected]. I’ll need everyone’s email address so that everyone can stay in the loop. I will do my best to keep our new website as updated as possible.
